# Semrush (Beta)

> Connect your own Semrush account to see the Google search volume, trend, intent and difficulty behind each tracked question — what it shows, what it costs in Semrush units, and what it is not.

<Warning>
  Semrush is in **Beta**. It works end to end, but it relies on Semrush's MCP endpoint, whose use by third-party products Semrush reviews case by case, and it cannot read your remaining unit balance. Expect the integration to change.
</Warning>

## What it adds

Every tracked question has a **head keyword** — the keyword at its core, extracted when the question's commercial intent is classified. With Semrush connected, Bluemoon looks that keyword up in the question's market and shows, on the Prompts page:

* the Google **search volume** per month, with its three-month trend;
* on hover, the **keyword difficulty** (0–100) and Semrush's **intent** labels;
* in the theme filter, the **sum per theme** with its base ("8.1k searches/mo on 6 of 12" — six of the theme's twelve questions carry a number);
* on the prompt detail page, a fourth stat: Google searches per month.

Measured on a production-sized library: about **83%** of questions get a number this way. The remaining questions have head keywords that exist as no Google keyword ("outil pour réduire les impayés"), and show a dash.

<Note>
  This is the **Google** volume of the keyword behind the question, as Semrush reports it. It is not how often the question is asked of ChatGPT or another AI: Semrush does not sell that figure through any API, so Bluemoon does not show it.
</Note>

## Connect

1. In Semrush, open **My profile → API keys** and create a **version 4** key. Any Semrush plan with MCP access works, which is every current plan.
2. In Bluemoon, open **Settings → Integrations → Semrush** and paste the key. A workspace **Admin** does this.
3. Bluemoon checks the key with one real call (10 of your Semrush MCP units) before saving it. A key Semrush refuses is not stored.
4. Click **Refresh now**, or wait for the nightly refresh.

The key is stored encrypted, never shown again, and never sent anywhere but Semrush.

## Cost and refresh

* Each keyword costs **10 Semrush MCP API units** per lookup, in batches of up to 50 keywords per request. A workspace with 150 distinct keywords across its markets spends about 1 500 units a refresh.
* A keyword is refreshed **every 28 days**. Semrush's terms allow holding its data for one month, so a number older than 31 days is no longer shown, and rows are deleted after 60 days.
* A keyword Semrush does not know is remembered as unknown for the same 28 days, so it is not looked up again every night.
* Nothing is shared between workspaces: a keyword tracked by two customers is looked up twice, once with each key.

Semrush's MCP units are a monthly allowance of your Semrush plan. When they run out, the refresh stops for the month and the Integrations row reads **needs attention**: "Your Semrush account has no MCP API units left this month." The numbers already collected stay until they are a month old. Your balance is visible in Semrush under **Subscription info**; Bluemoon cannot read it.

| Semrush does not recognise this key | Semrush answered that the key is invalid. Copy a version 4 key from My profile → API keys |

## Disconnect

**Disconnect** deletes the stored key and every number it bought. The column disappears from the Prompts page.
